オワリズム弁慶は、2009年に東京で結成された大所帯バンドです。武蔵坊弁慶の巨大さを表現すべく結成され、弁慶を中心とした祭り陣形、骨太なロック〜ダンスビート、舞台美術、ダンス、食、ライブハウス全体を巻き込むパフォーマンスによって、音楽だけに囚われない総合的な表現を展開しています。
シンボルマークでは、その象徴である武蔵坊弁慶を、さらに「不動明王」と重ね合わせました。動かない守護者として内外の障害を焼き尽くし、すべての悪魔や敵を撃滅し、行者と市井の民を守護する存在として、オワリズム弁慶の祝祭性、土着性、暴力性、救済性をひとつの紋へと集約しています。
このシンボルは、音楽、演奏、舞、舞台美術、食、歴史という、オワリズム弁慶を構成する6つの要素から成り立っています。可動性のあるオブジェクトを組み替えることで、要所ごとに異なる紋を形成できる構造とし、確たる世界観と流動的な編成を同時に体現することを目指しました。不動明王の火焔、弁慶の隈取、家紋や旗印の構成、ロールシャッハ・テストのような左右対称性を参照しながら、ライブハウスを火の海へと化し、今生の悪をすべて焼き払い、行者＝ファン／オーディエンスと市井の民を救済するための、新しいシンボルとして設計しました。
OWARHYTHM BENKEI is a large-scale band formed in Tokyo in 2009. Created to embody the immense presence of Musashibo Benkei, the group develops a comprehensive form of expression that goes beyond music alone, combining a festival-like formation centered around Benkei, heavy rock and dance beats, stage design, dance, food, and performances that involve the entire live venue.
For the logo, I overlaid the figure of Musashibo Benkei, the band’s central symbol, with Fudo Myo-o. As an unmoving guardian who burns away obstacles inside and out, destroys demons and enemies, and protects both practitioners and ordinary people, this emblem condenses the band’s festivity, earthiness, violence, and sense of salvation into a single crest.
The symbol mark is composed of six elements that form OWARHYTHM BENKEI: music, performance, dance, art, food, and history. By rearranging these movable objects, the system can generate different crests for different situations, aiming to embody both a fixed worldview and a fluid formation. Referencing the flames of Fudo Myo-o, Benkei’s kumadori makeup, the structure of family crests and banners, and the symmetry of a Rorschach test, the mark was designed as a new symbol that transforms the live house into a sea of fire, burns away all the evils of this world, and offers salvation to practitioners—the fans and audience—as well as to the people of the city.
