SHIBUYA PIXEL ART RECONNECT

"ビットバレー"渋谷で毎年開催される世界最大級のピクセルアートの祭典で、昨年の『- REBOOT』に引き続きアートディレクション・デザインを担当しました。
今年は「分断を超えて世界と再びつながる」をテーマに、ドイツ・ロシア・カナダ・中国・韓国など世界中から審査員12名を招致して、さらに審査員による特別展示も行われました。
低解像度の持つ魅力を再解釈し、ノスタルジアから切り離されてひとつのジャンルとして定着しながら大衆文化へ拡張していくピクセルアートの文脈と、日々アップデートされる現在進行形のストリートを接続する表現を模索しています。メインビジュアルはアーティストの奥田栄希さん。
また、先行で公開された「the PIXEL MAGAZINE（ https://thepixel-mag.jp/ ）」を含む、『the PIXEL』についても動き出しており、ピクセルを核とした展開が進行中。解像度を低くするとはどういうことか、画素数を最小化することでイマジネーションは最大化されるのか、などの問いとともにこちらもビジュアルアイデンティティの開発とブランディングなど担当しています。
This art festival, held annually in Shibuya—known as “Bit Valley”—is one of the world’s largest pixel art festivals. Following last year’s “- REBOOT,” I was once again responsible for the art direction and design.
This year’s theme was “Connecting with the World Again Beyond Divisions.” We invited 12 judges from around the world—including Germany, Russia, Canada, China, and South Korea—and also held a special exhibition curated by the judges.

We are exploring expressions that bridge the context of pixel art—which is reinterpreting the charm of low resolution, establishing itself as a distinct genre separate from nostalgia, and expanding into popular culture—with the ever-evolving, constantly updated world of street art. The main visual was created by artist Eiki Okuda.
Additionally, initiatives surrounding “the PIXEL,” including the previously released “the PIXEL MAGAZINE (https://thepixel-mag.jp/),” are gaining momentum, with pixel-centric developments underway. Alongside questions such as “What does it mean to lower resolution?” and “Does minimizing pixel count maximize imagination?”, I am also responsible for developing the visual identity and branding for this project.
